Mayor Baraka Will Hold The 30th Annual Holiday Tree-Lighting Ceremony Today

Mayor Ras J. Baraka will hold the 30th Annual Holiday Tree-Lighting Ceremony today at City Hall, 920 Broad Street, Newark, NJ. A Holiday Tree lighting ceremony will be held along with local choral groups singing holiday music joined by Santa and Mrs. Claus. All Newark youth will have the opportunity to pose for photos with their World Famous Giftgiver.

Newark, NJ  -- Mayor Ras J. Baraka, the Newark Municipal Council, Santa and Mrs. Claus, will be joined by dignitaries and the City of Newark residents to celebrate their City of Newark's 30th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, in the City Hall First Floor Rotunda, located at 920 Broad Street today at 5:00 p.m.  

According to the Mayor Baraka administration, also performing at the ceremony will be the Wells Fargo Jazz for Teens Ensemble, the Newark Boys chorus, Science Park High School Honors Choir, Ninia Samuel from the Newark School of the Arts, Manal Mootoo and Mireicy Aquino from First Avenue School and the New Jersey steel Rhythms.  In addition to the festivities, the Salvation Army will provide free hot chocolate to all.  

Mr. and Mrs. Claus will arrive at the City Hall Second Floor Atrium today at 2 p.m. to take pictures with the City of Newark youth until 5 p.m.  A 30-foot Spruce tree will be displayed for the youth today displaying 39,600 environmentally-friendly and energy-saving lights, powered by solar panels.  The panel display will collect solar energy during the day in order to save the City money to store illumination effects for the tree to broadcast at night.

In addition to the Magical event today, the Department of Health and Community Wellness will conduct a children;s immunization and health education table for all City of Newark Youths.
